Daniel 1 - Day 3

Don't forget to leave your comments. God has called us to live in community, and sharing your thoughts with us foster a strong sense of community. Also, please notice that I've added next week's homework at the top under the "Daniel 2 - Week at a Glance" tab.

Happy Hunting for God's truth!

  1. Thank you for your insight - hearing the conviction in your voice adds such depth to the written Word.

When reflecting over Daniel 1:6-10, I used the King James version this time (thanks for that website!), and a particular phrase stood out to me - "But Daniel purposed in his heart" (Daniel 1:8) when he faced the instructions from Melzar. I realized that Daniel did not simply want to remain true to his heart, and he didn't hope that he would stay true to his ways. Instead, he *purposed in his heart* - and that to me implies a commitment, desire AND intention. When the ways of the world conflict with God's way - I cannot simply desire to follow God. I must purpose in my heart, just like Daniel. This verse also reassured me - that I am not the only one who struggles in this world - even Daniel needed to "stand steadfastly."

In your video, you mentioned that sometimes we can feel as if "God is not revealing His plan for you" but that our trials are God's way to position and equip us. Thus, it does no good to regret that despite my desire to be close to God, I sometimes cannot understand why He does not simply reveal His plan for me. I am reminded of Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." And I will stand steadfastly.

P.S. It was adorable to see your puppy stroll in while you were talking, and your accessories really sparkle with shorter hair!

  2. I liked hearing your voice also! I love reading what you and Jessa write. This passage spoke to me in a little "extra" way. I have really been stuggling with proper diet. I have read The Makers Diet and Made to Crave. I want to be like Daniel - able to choose the good food even when the other is going to be prepared for me! I guess I need to stop reading and start "purposing in my heart". The act of eating properly actually helped equip Daniel to do what God had for him to do.
