Daniel 5 - Week at a Glance

Daniel 5

Day 1
1. Pray - Sit down in a pleasant place, close your eyes, take a deep breath in and out, and ask the God of the Universe to hover over your time. It still floors me that the same God who made the moon and stars is available to be my study buddy.
2. Read Daniel 5 to get a quick preview of the chapter. Try to read it aloud and tell it like a story, if you can. You'll be amazed at how the text comes alive.
3. Reread Daniel 5:1-7. Put yourself into King Belshazzar's place.
4. Apply - Think about the king's position. How do you think he was feeling, as he waited on another person to provide truth for him. Do you realize that we don't have to trust other people to givenus truth because we have the privilege of directly seeking God.

Day 2
1. Pray
2. Read Daniel 5 in a new translation. Remember, The Message paraphrase is a great resource for translating the Bible into current context.
3. Reread Daniel 5:8-12. Notice how the queen describes Daniel to Belshazzar.
4. Apply - Consider what others might say of you when describing you to another person. Does their description communicate a heart for God? Is God calling you to act today?

Day 3
1. Pray - Thank God for the power of His Word. Ask Him to make it alive in your life today.
2. Read Daniel 5.
3. Reread Daniel 5:13-17. As you read, look closely to see who Daniel credits with his abilities.
4. Apply - Are you quick to acknowledge God's ability in your life when others praise you? Would you describe yourself as humbled to God's plan or prideful of your own position? Why or why not?

Day 4
1. Pray
2. Read Daniel 5.
3. Reread Daniel 5:18-24.
4. Apply - Once again Daniel models boldness as he delivers God's truth. How can you have this same spiritual boldness when proclaiming God's truth?

Day 5
1. Pray - "Father, thank you for loving me enough to entrust me with your Word. Teach me your ways as I study it."
2. Read Daniel 5 with a sense of ownership!
3. Reread Daniel 5:25-30
4. Apply - What hard news has God given you to deliver? Or, what has been your response to hard news? Was it glorifying to God?
