Okay! Let's get going on Week 1 of 1 Peter! Our weeks will run from Wednesday to Wednesday, and we'll camp out in one chapter each week. It may seem slow at first, but I think you'll grow to appreciate having ample time to make discoveries along the way.
The beauty of this method is that you can spend as long or as little time on this as you feel led to do. Let's get started....
Week 1
Day 1
- Pray - Begin each session by praying and asking God to quiet your mind and still your heart, so that you can hear Him. Ask Him to illuminate His truths as you read and study His word.
- Read the entire book of 1 Peter - Explore the context. We never want to impose our personal agendas on God's pertinent truth. Don't be fooled into thinking that we know it all because we've read the whole book. We're just getting our footing.
- If you have time, read the book again, but this time, choose a different translation. www.biblegateway.com is a great resource for doing this. You can read many different translations online. Sometimes, I like to read it once in my personal Bible (New Living Translation or NIV), and then read the paraphrase in The Message version. This is not a translation, but a wonderful paraphrase.
- Make notes - Who is the author? Who is the audience? What was the author's purpose for writing the book?
- Comment - If you feel comfortable, leave a comment and tell us your first impressions of 1 Peter. What are you thinking? What are you wondering?
That's it for today! Not too bad, huh? Hang with us to discover how God can change your life when only you allow Him the chance.
I love you, dear friend!
So glad you are doing this! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited about the study! I have already tried to learn so much from you and your experience and diligence. Thank you for listening to God and doing this.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have never read The Message before tonight. It is very interesting and is like listening to someone talk to you.
Thanks Again! Blessing to you!

I am thrilled to be partnering with you and other women in this study. I just finished reading through the book two times and can't wait to get started on the application process. This book is just chock full of things! Praying that God will bless our time together and that more will join us.
ReplyDeleteThank you for doing this. Since I came across your blog I have found your story an inspiration. I read 1 Peter last night in the NIV and then again this morning in the Message. There are so many things that stand out, and it covers so many topics from suffering for Christ, to loving one another, to respecting the government (sometimes a hard one for me), to serving your husband. I'm looking forward to your insights, as well as the insights of others.
ReplyDeleteI was so happy to read this today because I go to a small Lutheran church which I love dearly.....but women's Bible study group opportunities are not there.
ReplyDeleteSo I am very excited to be a part of this online Bible study. I will be anxious tonight to get started reading.
Thanks Lindsey for this opportunity!

QT and Bible study had become a long lost memory of something I used to do until now! I made the commitment to God Sunday that I was about to start spending time with Him somehow and then read about this study Monday! I am so appreciative of you! I am so thankful to know you! I feel blessed to have you in my life, even if lately it has only been via the internet! I feel like God is going to do amazing things for everyone involved in this study and I can't wait to start digging in. I read all of I Peter twice, NIV and then the Message. I can't wait to hear everyone's thoughts!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for doing this
ReplyDeleteApathy has been dogging my trail lately and I so need this discipline to get me back on track. Thank you for writing each day's study.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stepping out with this study. I've been doing some study on my own but I'm excited to join with other women and learn from all of you :)
ReplyDeleteThis is great, I love that God is leading you in this new adventure. I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteThank you, beautiful Lindsey!
